How to maintain chemically treated hair during monsoon

Rains are a welcome sight after the brutal summer! No doubt we enjoy the fragrance of petrichor and cool weather! In the midst of enjoying the rain showers, don’t miss out on the care you need to take for your hair when you step out.

Managing our hair, due to increased level of humidity, during monsoon becomes extremely difficult. Issues such as dandruff, frizzy hair and hair fall become more frequent in the rainy season. Especially if your hair had been chemically treated.

However, a simple routine in taking care of your hair will help you sail through rains. Here are some tips which you can use.

Coloured hair needs extra care and protection

A special tip for coloured hair is to dampen your locks before going out in the rain and apply conditioner. This can prevent the colour from bleeding. However, do not forget to rinse with cold water immediately after you are back indoors.

Use the right shampoo & conditioner

Since we need to be extremely sensitive with chemically treated hair, use a color protector / SLS free shampoo and conditioner as they will be gentler on coloured hair. Don’t skip on the conditioner if you want to avoid frizziness. This will also make your colour last longer.

Special products for Keratin / Cysteine treated hair

Invest in high-quality keratin-based hair care products, during the monsoons. Wash your scalp and hair with a keratin-infused shampoo and conditioner to keep frizzy and dull hair at bay and to maintain the results.

Go easy on Hair washes

It is normal to assume that washing your hair is necessary since our hair is affected by moisture and possible dandruff. However, if your hair is cysteine / Keratin treated, avoid washing the hair too often because the results might be impacted while also making the hair look frizzier.

Oil for Good hydration

A common misconception holds that one should not oil straightened hair. The fact is that you should only avoid oil for the first week post-treatment while the chemical takes full effect. After that, oil proves to be one of the best natural moisturisers for your hair. A hot oil massage can stimulate your follicles, rid you of a dry scalp, and save you from bad hair days.
