Let’s do some Nail talking

Do you realize how much stress you give to your nails and how less do you take care of them? And if you are still wondering why you have weird looking nails and cuticles, we have just answered your concern. Almost all of us give our hands too much stress and completely ignore the kind of care our nails need. It is time that we start listening to what our nails are saying and get them in healthy shape. Taking care of your nails is extremely easy. There are basic things that you need to bring to your regime and everything will fall in place. 1. Using nail polish: Your daily attire these days includes wearing nail polish. It is a part of your style too. Hence we recommend use of nail polish but with caution. Go for brands that are known and are safe to use. Not only will the colour last longer, it will minimize the damage. It is highly recommended that give your nails a break from nail polish every few days. Leaving them without colour will allow them to take in some fresh air and oxygen. 2. Removing Gel polish: Use of gel polish undoubtedly looks great on the nails. However when it starts to wear off, the temptation to peel it off is very high. You must learn to resist the same. Gel polish sits on the nails and peeling it off will also rip off the natural layer of your nails, making them weak and brittle. An ideal way to remove gel polish is to visit a salon and get it done. You may also choose to dip your nails in pure acetone for about 15 minutes and wait for it to lift itself from your nails. 3. Peeling off the regular nail polish: Just like peeling of gel polish, peeling off the regular nail polish is also not recommended. Half peeled nail polish not only looks untidy but also may chip off parts of your nails, making them uneven and shapeless. Thus you must always use a proper nail polish remover. 4. Use of moisturizers: Moisturizing your hands must be a part of your daily routine. A rich hand cream or cuticle oil is strongly recommended which will help heal dry, weak and brittle nails and cuticles. For excessively dry hands, massage your hands daily before bed time, especially applying the cream on the nails and around the finger tips. Then slip on cotton gloves or socks on the hands. This will protect your hands well and retain the natural moisture. 5. Protecting your hands while using cleaning products: While using cleaning...

Goodbye to black heads

Goodbye to black heads

With our previous blogs we have dealt with skin problems like acne and today we shall address something equally concerning – Black heads. Let us first clear basic myths about Black heads: Myth – Dirt accumulation in open pores of the skin causes black heads. Fact – Black heads are caused in open pores when the skin cells get oxidized with the oxygen in the air. Myth – Scrubbing the skin can help remove black heads. Fact – Obsessive scrubbing of the face may not necessarily help. In fact it can cause excessive dry skin and can also cause rashes and skin breakout. There is no reason to stress out. We have some very easy,do it yourself techniques that can help you get rid of black heads quickly. To begin with, make sure you have clean skin. Use a skin friendly face wash. Have ample drinking water all through the day to keep your skin hydrated and supple. Water and a face wash go a long way. Washing your face clean at least twice a day is a must. This ensures open pores don’t accumulate sebum and dead skin cells. Using a good moisturizer helps in nourishing the skin. The first technique is using a clean tooth brush with soft bristles and used only for skin care. Keep it dipped in water for about 5 minutes to make it softer so that using it on your skin doesn’t hurt. Start by washing your face clean. Make a paste by mixing 1 tea spoon filtered water, 1 table spoon baking soda and some toothpaste. Mix and keep aside. Take a warm washed cloth and press it gently on the areas where you want to remove blackheads from, such as the nose, chin and cheeks, avoiding eyes at all times. This warm cloth will help open the pores. Gently apply the paste and with the toothbrush make small circular motions to scrub the area. Make sure you don’t over scrub, not more than twice. Take a warm cloth and wipe off the mask. Do not use cold cloth or water at this moment since that can close the pores. With the same warm damp cloth you can try to pinch out the black and white heads that are still visible. Some can even be scraped and extracted gently by clean nails. Once you are sure that you have cleaned the area, replenish the skin by using a light weight moisturizer. Repeat this procedure whenever needed but not more than once a week. Another easy technique is by using a mix of 1 tablespoon organic honey and 1 teaspoon milk heated in...

Coolest ways to accessorize your bun

While the summer is heating you crisp, we have something to cool you in some of the trendiest ways. Summer is the season when you certainly wish to put your hair out of your way whether at work or at play. One of the most comfortable ways to do so is to tie up the hair in a bun. Yes we know what’s on your mind. When we say a bun, we don’t intend to give you a boring everyday bun to go ahead with. There are many easy ways to make it look zingy and sassy. Next time when you decide to go for a bun ensure you do enough to accessorize it with simple things available easily at home. A Sunday brunch can carry a delicate floral crown tie wrapped around the crown of the head and then wrapped around the bun. This look not only gives you a fresh look but also gives you a very country feel. If you have a very nice bold bracelet and you haven’t gotten a chance to flaunt yet, go and place it right at the very top. Yes, that’s right. Put it around a high bun and make a bold style statement. Using a bow does give you a retro feel and so for any party themed retro don’t hesitate to pick a bow and place it on the bun. Each time you decide to bow the bun, try to make changes on the bow placement, making it look new. It can go on the side of the bun or under the bun. Bows are designed in colors and patterns and can be easily matched with the outfit. If you don’t have a bow to go with, pick up a scarf and tie it around in cool knots and add spice to the bun. If there is an evening cocktail party to attend you may want to add some glitter on your hair and give yourself a sparkling look. A delicate neck piece can also be used as a classic accessory for the bun. You may tie it around the bun or you may choose to put it below the high bun on the hair. Use bobby pins to hide the loose ends of the neck piece and you are good to go. Almost all of us have our favorite broche in the drawer. You can try to mix and match a couple of them and use them on the bun to get a traditional look. Or may be a bejeweled hair comb can help become a bun tiara. You can also consider a hair piece to be worn...

Screen from the sun!

Screen from the sun!

With the mercury levels going up we are all trying to find reasons to stay indoors and protect our skin from all the damage caused by the sun. Most of us resort to sunscreens without putting much thought to process. Some of us just buy any sunscreen which is available over the counter or go by the recommendation of the seller. But before you go sunscreen shopping for this season, there is a checklist that we want you to consider. There are many options available such as creams, gels, lotions and milk all claiming to protect the skin from the sun. However what matters the most is the type of your skin, the suitable solar protection, which part of the body is going to be exposed and for how long. First things first – Decide whether you need a sunscreen or a sun block. For those who did not know, yes there is a difference. As the name suggests, a sun screen will give your skin a screen against the sun. However, a sun block will block the sun rays completely. In general terms, a sunscreen is good to use on a routine basis. But if you are going to be exposed to the sun for an extended period of time then you must consider picking up a sun block. Protection against UVA as well as UVB rays is a must. Any exposure to sun definitely causes serious and sometimes irreversible damage to the skin. UVA rays cause wrinkles while UVB rays cause more serious damage like sunburn. Protection from UVA rays is offered by most of the sunscreens but this time look for a product that offers protection from UVA as well as UVB rays. What is a PA rating? It is the protection against UVA rays. This can be figured out by PA ratings mentioned on the label such as PA+ or PA*, PA++ OR PA**or PA+++ PA***. More the rating, higher is the protection provided. What is the correct Solar Protection Factor (SPF) for me? This is the most common yet an unanswered question when it comes to choosing a sunscreen. All sunscreen labels mention the SPF rating. While it is true that higher the SPF better is the protection, one cannot be looking for a 100 SPF. The correct way to select the one that suits you is by knowing the activity you are indulging in and the type of the skin. If you are going trekking or spending a day at the beach, go for a 50+ and if it is an ordinary routine you may select any SPF from 15+ to 50+. It...
