Delightful winter skin
Isn’t winter all about dry skin and chapped lips? Well not any more. We shall share with you some easy tips to get a glowing radiant skin this winter.
First things first, if you are facing excessive dry skin, it is best to seek help from a specialist – esthetician or dermatologist, who is the best person to examine your skin type and suggest remedies. At times you may be prescribed some medicines which must be taken as advised. Going forward you should take notice of the skin care products that you buy, they should be friendly with your skin type.
A good moisturizer must always be handy. An important thing to remember here is that a moisturizer in summeris not the right one for winter too. With the weather, the skin care products must also change. Based on your skin type, you may need a moisturizer that may or may not be oil based. This will help retain the moisturizer in the skin.
One common myth is that sun screens are only for summers. While the fact is that even when it snows, sun screen is very important because sun rays combined with snow glare can cause a lot of damage to the skin. So you must not only apply sun screen once but reapply if you are exposed to the sun for more time, preferably every 30-45 minutes.
Skin on the hands feel rough and dry much before other parts of the body, this is because the skin on the hands is very thin. Thus care must be taken for the hands else, the skin will feel flaky and itchy. Keep your hands moist with the right moisturizer. In extreme winter conditions, protect your hands with gloves – cotton or woolen, depending on the weather conditions and your comfort.
Along with hands, your legs must get good attention too. A good application of lotions with petroleum jelly or glycerin will always keep the skin on your legs moist. Make sure exfoliation of dead skin cells is taken care of to help the moisturizer do its magic.
It is very important to note that any wet clothing like wet gloves or wet socks must not be worn since they can cause a lot of damage to the skin in the form of painful flakes, irritation, itching and soring of the skin.
Damage to the skin in the winters is not a problem of outdoors. Even while you enjoy the warmth of the indoors you must know that centralized heating systems cause dryness of the skin. Use of humidifiers is highly recommended that help retain moisture in the air.
Nothing works better than water. A good intake of water is extremely important not just for your skin, but also for your overall health. A good practice with intake of water keeps you hydrated and helps you look younger.
Along with other skin care products, the toners must also be replaced. An alcohol based toner or astringent may steal the essential oils from your face. Thus it is recommended that you use cleansing milk or mild foaming cleanser or a toner with no alcohol or a hydrating facial mask. Also watch out the frequency of using each of these.
We understand that a hot water bath feels awesome in the chilling winters. But that may not be what your skin wants. Hot water can definitely rip off the moisture from your skin. A short span of time in warm water is what is needed. It will be great to add oatmeal or baking soda with the luke warm water to revive the itchiness and dryness of the skin.
